Labs & Facilities
The Department of Marine Sciences is housed in a 5,200 square meter building that overlooks the Aegean Archipelago, situated at Mytilene's University Hill. Well-equipped for instruction and research, the campus provides student and scientists who seek to study the ocean and its life a unique opportunity to pursue their dreams and ambitions.
In addition to specialised biological, oceanographic, and hydroacoustic research equipment, DMS facilities include a culture room for larval invertebrates and algae, a wet lab, as well as dedicated Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Geology, and Computer laboratories, manned by technical assistants that support our educational and research activities. The Department also owns and operates three research vessels that support both student theses and coastal research projects: the 12-m fast research vessel R/V Oceanis, the 9.5-m coastal research vesel R/V Amfitriti and the 4,7-m long fast RIB-type diving/research vessel R/V Aktaia.
